Cat Urine Cleaning Products

What kinds of cleaners actually work on removing cat urine stains and cat urine odor? It can be hard to know what products actually work, and which ones do not. If you have a cat urine stain that is causing you stress, you have probably already tried different products and methods to remove the urine odor, but may not have found any to be successful. There are some products that can work, as well as home remedies that can do the job well. Depending on how long the stain has been there, and how many times the cat has made it, products may be more effective or a home remedy may work better.

The way that most of the cleaners work is to attack the protein and crystals that form from cat urine and contain powerful enzymes to combat them. Cat urine is very potent and has a strong ammonia scent to it. It is because of this that you should avoid using any kind of cat urine cleaning products that contain ammonia. The smell of the ammonia can actually attract the cat to come back to the same spot and urinate again. The best thing to do is to keep your cat away from the area until you have the spot completely cleaned up as best as you can and have as much odor removed as possible. Make sure that when you are cleaning the area, you take special care to not make it worse and that you get up as much of the urine as you can.

Here are some helpful hints for using cat urine cleaning products:

• Find a product that works best for you and your timeframe for cleaning. If you have a short amount of time to work on the stain and do not want to have to leave the product on the area for a long time, you should try to go for cat urine cleaning products that are fast acting.

• If you have vinegar, baking soda and some dish detergent at home, you can try a homemade remedy before purchasing a product to use. You can mix equal parts of baking soda and vinegar in water and apply to the stain. After the mixture sets on the stain, clean it off and if necessary repeat the procedures.

• Carpet cleaners, power cleaners and wet vacuums usually work best to work on a difficult stain and can help speed up the process by getting in deeper to the stain and help remove it.

If you try repeatedly to remove the stain and the odor, but it doesn’t seem to be going away or it is even appearing to increase, it could be that your cat has chosen that place to come back to and keeps urinating on it. The best thing you can do then is to keep your cat completely away from the area of your home if possible. Some cats will keep coming back to the spot if it at all smells of ammonia. If you are uncertain if your cat is always using the litter box or not, it could be that you should follow him around when he acts like he has to go and make sure that he is not going to the area that is stained.

Behavior problems sometimes stem from urinary problems in cats so if your cat is developing different habits with the way he uses the litter box and you notice different behaviors, you may want to rule out the possibility of him having a urinary problem.
